Pinellas Senior Squadron FL-182

Welcome to Pinellas Senior Squadron, we are a very active squadron.  As a Senior Squadron, our members are all over the age of 18. Being a Senior Squadron allows us to concentrate more of our training on Emergency Services and we have actively participated in many search and recovery missions in support of CAP, numerous government agencies and our armed forces. We also support the other missions of CAP to ensure we constantly improve our proficiency and are an asset to the community.

We have an active group of pilots, but for those who are not pilots, we offer a wide variety of other areas to ensure our missions are supported by trained and qualified personnel. It takes a team of people to run our missions and everyone is important to ensure the mission is a success. CAP offers training and the squadron members offer the mentoring to make a difference.

Our members train and qualify to be aircrew members including mission scanners, mission observers, mission pilots, mission staff support personnel, and communications members. We are tasked by CAP and other agencies to conduct search and rescue missions involving locating missing aircraft, reconnaissance, airborne photography, disaster relief, and much more, by air and ground. We train hard to ensure we are ready when called upon.

We also interface with several Cadet Squadrons in our area providing support and growth opportunities. As we are not a Cadet squadron we work with local Cadet squadrons and encourage them to participate in our exercises so they also have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and qualify in the same air and ground crew specialties. We also participate in Cadet Orientation Flights, offering our qualified pilots and aircraft to the cadets for their required flight experience.

Located on Albert Whitted Airport (KSPG) property, we are in a great position from which to operate missions and exercises. We have several Cessna 172's with Garmin avionics on site that are used for missions and in support of our squadron. This allows us to be ready at very short notice to assist in search and recovery missions and in support of numerous other missions in our area.

Pinellas Senior Squadron FL182 partners with neighboring squadrons, participating in Search and Rescue Exercises which afford plenty of opportunity for members to qualify for, and remain current in, many specialty areas. There are many opportunities for growth, learning and being part of a very active team of people.

Our Squadron meets on the first three Wednesdays of every month, with meetings beginning at 7:00pm. In addition to conducting regular business, we also incorporate training into our meetings to help those unable to attend weekend functions due to work constraints.

The Civil Air Patrol offers a great way to serve your community, state, and nation as a highly respected volunteer member of CAP, the Air Force Auxiliary. The opportunities to learn are endless.

Please come and visit the squadron.  Let us tell you about CAP!
